Your Personal Brand And How To Showcase It In An Interview

If you want to land your dream job, simply having a good resume and strong interview skills are not enough. Today, employers are looking for a unique type of employee who is willing to go the extra mile to secure a position within their company. One of the qualities that hiring managers are interested in is employees with a personal brand because it shows a clear sense of identity, passion, and authenticity. A well-defined personal brand highlights an individual’s experiences, skills, and values, making it easier for employers to determine whether a candidate is compatible with the company’s goals and culture. To ensure your interview is as successful as possible, showcase your personal brand clearly using these tips.

Research The Company In-Depth

If you are going to showcase your personal brand effectively in a job interview, researching the company is essential. Perform a deep dive into their values, vision, mission statement, clients, and services with information available online. Also, familiarize yourself with their recent achievements. This knowledge will help you create a connection between your personal brand and the company before the interview.

Bring Your Personal Brand With You

Arrive at the interview armed with your personal brand. Have your business card, resume, cover letter, and a portfolio if you are in the creative field. Make sure everything looks professional and has your logo, website, and social media handles on it. At the end of the interview, hand over whatever you have. By having your personal brand clearly defined, you will give the impression that you are serious about appearing and being professional, and this attitude will give you a competitive advantage over the other candidates.

Share Stories Related To Your Brand

Stories are a great way to showcase your brand. Instead of discussing the items that are on your resume, tell personal stories to highlight your achievements and experiences. Share anecdotes that reveal your leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Stories make your personal brand more genuine, memorable, and deeply engaging. Again, researching the company helps when it comes to telling stories, make sure when you are preparing them, they align with the company’s mission and values.

Let Your Personality Shine Through

Your personal brand is about you, and you have a personality. It is not uncommon for candidates to attend job interviews and stifle their personality to conform to professional norms. Since they want to make a good impression, they suppress their natural traits fearing they might appear too unconventional or casual. Additionally, some candidates fear being judged unfairly for who they are. However, to most hiring managers, a person who is thoughtful enough to let their personality shine through during a job interview is a breath of fresh air (while, of course, using common sense). Hiring mangers may be so used to dealing with conformists that they will appreciate people who think outside the box and show that.

Learning how to showcase your personal brand in an interview is essential in today’s competitive job market. Your main aim should be to stand out from the competition, and one of the best ways to achieve this is by embracing your originality. There are other characteristics outside of a brand that will help you land the job. Your communication skills, calm confidence, and ability to answer questions thoughtfully will all play a role in what makes you hireable. Therefore, focus on developing all of these skills and you can move towards leveling up your career.
