Over the weekend at the Iowa State Fair, Republican and Democratic presidential contenders alike took the stage at the Des Moines Register Soapbox to make their case as to why they believe they are best fit to hold the nation’s highest office. After each twenty-minute speech, the candidate then heads around the corner where members of the press gather to ask questions.

Over the course of the weekend, Forbes was able to talk to many fairgoers about their views on the candidates in the race. Kennedy Jr.’s message is resonating with them — while a few even hope, should Donald Trump be the nominee, that the former president taps the environmental lawyer for his vice presidential pick.

In the press gaggle directly after Kennedy’s Soapbox speech, Forbes had the opportunity to ask the Democrat if he would serve on a Republican administration, should a member of the GOP clinch the presidency. Kennedy says he “would not” consider being Trump’s VP pick. Forbes further presses, asking if he would serve on any Republican’s cabinet.

“I don’t know,” repeats Kennedy three times.
